University of Tampa

On August 2, 1933, the old Junior College became the new University of Tampa. Back in 1888 the building was worth $3 million. Many people visited there including President Roosevelt, the Queen of England and the Prince of Wales.

Babe Ruth signed his first baseball contract in the dining room of the hotel. Today these are classrooms and laboratories which make up the old hotel.

The University of Tampa offers a variety of diverse experiences. It is significant for it's cultural and historical attributes.

There is by far an attraction to the University of Tampa due to the international heritage; it attracts teachers and students from all kinds of backgrounds and nationalities.

There is now a museum called the Henry Plant Museum that is located at the south end of the original Tampa Bay hotel. it was named Florida's "first Magic Kingdom", by Henry Bradley Plant.

There is actually authentic furniture that remains. This furniture is that of which Mr. and Mrs. Plant brought from Europe and the Orient. You can take a tour of the Victorian era and also when the tourist industry began. The hotel played a significant part in Spanish American War era.

The University is located on the riverfront in downtown Tampa. There are about 5,500 students that attend The University of Tampa. These students consist of  people from the United States and in 100 other countries worldwide.

The University of Tampa has over 200 areas of study and graduate programs in a variety of fields.

If it sounds like a school that you may want to look into, there are a few things that you may need to know before making a final decision.

You must be a high school graduate or have a GED. There is a $40 nonrefundable application fee. If you are in school you will need a teacher recommendation and an essay.

About 87% of the students that go to the University of Tampa receive financial aid. They receive about $28 million in institutional aid and $72 million in other aid, such as grants. The school brings in about $5.1 million in fund raising, annually.
