Tampa Bay Downs

If you are up for some action and enjoy racing then the Tampa Bay Downs is the place to go.

The Tampa Bay Downs track features live horse racing from December to May. 

The track has been the home of some of the biggest names in racing including Street Sense who went on to win the 133rd Kentucky Derby. Tampa Bay Downs Jockey

Opened in 1926, it is one of America’s oldest tracks and is the only thoroughbred race track on Florida’s West Coast.

It has been going strong ever since. 

Seating in the facility is provided in a number of different areas. 

The Grandstand seats 4,300 while the clubhouse has seating for up to 1,700 people. 

There are also seats available by the picnic tables, benches and Pavilions throughout the track. 

Admission to the track is very reasonable with the prices as follows:

  • Grandstand $2
  • Clubhouse $3
  • Children 14 & under Free
The gates open at 11 a.m. and the races occur throughout the day.

In addition to horse racing there is also a Golf Practice facility and a Poker room at the Tampa Bay Downs.

The Downs Golf Practice facility area consists of 22 acres which includes 270 yards of open ranges to practice full swing shots.  There are also areas to brush up on your short game and putting.

The Silks Poker Room has 8 different games with 22 poker tables.


Dining

Grandstand Options

In the Grandstand seating of the Tampa Bay Downs there are a few different dining options to enjoy while taking in the racing. 

These options include 

  • Trackside Deli
  • Ice cream
  • Concession stands 
  • The Silks Bistro (upper level)
At the Silks Bistro you find food such as hamburgers and fries.

Clubhouse Options

The Clubhouse dining also has its share of options.  These are:

The Sports Gallery

Similar to a sports bar. There is a $3 admission fee to enter. Menu includes items such as Chicken sandwiches, steak, and salads.

The Clubhouse Turn 

Located on the second floor.  Has signature Tampa sandwiches, Cubans.

Skype Terrace Room

For more exquisite tastes. This restaurant features fine dining items.  On their menu you will find items such as Surf and Turf and Filet Mignon. 


When looking for a place to spend an afternoon the Tampa Bay Downs provides you with another great option.  Even if you do not wish to gamble you can enjoy the races or even get some practice on your golf swing.
