Why Attend a Tampa Bay
Devil Rays Baseball Game?

Attending a Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball game is one of my favorite things to do when I have free time.  It is cheap, fun, and we always eat great food whenever we go.

We can usually have a family outing for 2 and spend less than $40.  That includes food before the game, parking, and the baseball game!

Before the Game

My wife and I usually attend Ferg’s, a restaurant/bar down the street from the stadium before going to the game.  This popular spot has the best wings in the Tampa Bay area.

I am usually not a fan of breaded buffalo wings but that quickly changed when I had the wings at Ferg’s.  The wings are juicy, cheap, and huge!

In fact the last time we went to a game we ordered about 20 wings, 2 drinks and a basket of fries.  Our total bill came out to less than $15.  Wow!

Not only that, but the wings were so large that we had leftovers for another meal.  That is my kind of place.

Judging by the crowds at the restaurant we are not the only ones that love this place.

I must warn you if crowds bother you this is not the place to be before or after a Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball game.  The place is usually packed wall to wall with people.

After chowing down on some of the best wings in the Tampa bay area you can take a stroll over to the baseball stadium.

Tropicana field, as it is called, is enclosed with temperatures of 70 degrees year round. I would typically like to attend a baseball game outside.

However, baseball season coincides with the Florida summer heat and rain.  Watching a nine inning baseball game in 90 degree temperatures with rain pouring is not my idea of fun.

So I completely understand the need for an inside stadium in Florida.

Changes for the Fans

A couple of years ago in an attempt to boost attendance the owners of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays made a few changes.

Some of the biggest changes include free parking and allowing you to bring food into the stadium.

Take advantage of this.  Parking used to cost $20 in the stadium parking lot and $10 in various lots around the stadium.

Also considering that you more than likely will have leftovers if you ordered wings from Ferg’s then you will have food to chow on during the game without having to spend extra money.

Even if you do not bring food into the stadium you can get pretty good food in the stadium.  My wife usually orders the chicken strip with french fries basket.

The Columbia Restaurant has a local outpost in the stadium.  They offer Tampa’s signature cuisine, Cuban food.  You can eat from here if want something a little different than your typical baseball food.

Tickets

Considering the lack of crowds at the games you can usually purchase tickets on game day.

In the past we usually bought tickets in the Beach section of the outfield for $3-$5.  They no longer have these tickets at this price.

The lowest priced tickets now are $8 for seats in the outfield and go up to $210.

However, we had to pay for parking then and parking is now free at the stadium.  So there is no need to pay for parking at the other parking lots around the area.

A day at the park is a wonderful way to spend a summer day in Tampa Bay.  With free parking, excellent food, cost efficient entertainment and no worry about heat or rain you are sure to enjoy yourself.

Oh by the way, I left out one more thing about going to a Tampa Bay Devil Rays game.  You can catch the baseball game while you are there!
