Honeymoon Island in Florida was well known as Hog Island by Florida natives in the pioneering days. Then in 1939, it was developed into a special retreat with the construction of 50 thatched palm bungalows reserved for honeymooners.

As the island became known as Honeymoon Isle, it began to draw hundreds of visitors who would make their way across the Dunedin Causeway to spend precious time at this idyllic spot.

The Beach

You can even watch dolphins frolic in the sea and gape in awe at Nature’s abundant wonders. If you’re disabled, you get free entrance and you can access the beach from the parking lots by getting onto the boardwalks.

The crystal clear waters and sand as soft as talcum powder will make you want to linger by the beach well after the official closing time. Easily accessible bathrooms at the far end of the parking lots mean that you can get the sand off your body very quickly after you finish bathing.

Pet Restrictions

Dogs aren’t allowed to run freely on the beach. They have to be on six foot long leashes that are securely fastened. You have to control your canine pets in the Park as they are restricted to certain areas only.

The beach is definitely off limits to your four legged friend so he won’t be able to swim with you in the sea or surf the waves. And make sure you observe the rules on where your pets are allowed because the Park Rangers can be quite forceful in enforcing the Park rules and regulations.
